Gemma is an author and illustrator from the Causeway Coast.
She graduated from Falmouth University in 2011 with a BA (Hons) Degree in Illustration and has been working freelance in all areas of illustration ever since.
She also graduated with her first authored and illustrated picture book deal after visiting the Bologna Children’s Book Fair during her final year of study. Her books have now been published globally and been nominated for awards such as the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal, Dundee Picture Book Awards and Coventry Inspiration Book Awards.
Gemma was more recently named NI Artist of the Year finalist, a Jameson Whiskey t-shirt design competition winner and has received multiple awards from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, including SIAP funding and IERP funding.
Gemma is greatly inspired by storytelling, nature, travel, hiking, photography and everyday life. She keeps a sketchbook with her at all times, jotting down ideas and sketching on location. Her Causeway Coast roots have undoubtedly been of huge inspiration in terms of mark making, colour and the natural theme within her work.
Gemma lives in a little cottage next to the woods, near the Mourne Mountains in County Down with her other half and Frida, their much adored cocker spaniel.
